Some very bold steps are required to reform the police department in Pakistan.

Make police independent of any political influence. Political influence in every department is really hurting Pakistan. almost every criminal has political associations. Resultant, even if a criminal is arrested, he is relieved because of political pressure. If an honest officer tries to reform the system, he is transferred on the request of political figures. Transfers, postings, hiring; all should be made without any political influence.

Those police officers which have been appointed on political basis should be transferred to far off places.

Increase the salary of police officials. When a person is earning a mere Rs. 20000 a month (US 191), you can’t expect him to abstain from getting involved in corruption. Even the mere tuition fee of a nursery student is about Rs. 4000 per month of a good school.

Train the officials. Pakistan police does not have proper training. They do not know what to do in a particular situation.

Police should be equipped with modern devices and infrastructure. have u ever visited a police station. It will give you an impression as if you have come at a very depressing place. Modern technology also means establishment of forensic laboratories and making them available to police.

Computerization of the data. If a SIM card requires a thumb impression of people and PTA has all the record, the police should also have thumb prints of every person within the country. Finger prints can be handy in identifying the criminal

Strict check on the morality of police. Once the salaries have been increased, there should be a proper check if any personnel are involved in any immoral activity.

Prosecution department should be made more efficient. Police works in close liaison with the prosecution department. The efficiency of prosecution will ensure it will put pressure on police on performing its duties regarding the conviction of accused properly.
